KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 – Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has filed a lawsuit against Sunway Lagoon Sdn Bhd.
Seeking over RM1.8 million in damages following a food poisoning incident that affected more than 800 attendees during a family day event on Oct 4, 2025.
The case was filed at the Shah Alam High Court, with MCMC alleging negligence in food safety after guests experienced symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps shortly after consuming meals served at the park.
MCMC claims the incident caused reputational damage and medical expenses, alleging food contamination and poor handling practices.
However, Sunway Lagoon denied responsibility, arguing there is no clear evidence linking the illnesses to its operations.
Earlier investigations by the Selangor Health Department pointed to possible food contamination and improper storage, though no fatalities were reported.
