PUTRAJAYA, April 18 — The government is targeting the end of June to implement restrictions on social media account access for users under 16.

As part of efforts to strengthen online safety, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the move is subject to final review following ongoing discussions with platform providers.

Fahmi said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is conducting a regulatory sandbox to test age verification mechanisms using official identity documents such as MyKad.

He added that several platforms have shown readiness to comply, with implementation expected between June and July after further evaluation.
