PETALING JAYA, April 17 — Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia (GKMM) has urged the government to consider reinstating a special petrol quota of 300 litres of RON95 for registered media practitioners.

Saying the current 200-litre limit is creating significant operational challenges for journalists, photographers and videographers who travel extensively for daily assignments.

GKMM said it had received multiple complaints, particularly from media personnel based in different states, who often need to cover long-distance assignments and frequent on-site reporting.

The group noted that the reduced quota, introduced on April 1 under the BUDI95 subsidy framework, is frequently exhausted before the end of the monthly cycle.

Affecting the ability of reporters to carry out timely coverage. While acknowledging the government’s efforts to manage rising subsidy costs and global energy pressures.

GKMM said media professionals play a critical role in ensuring public access to timely information and should be given targeted support.

The coalition, which includes several media clubs and journalist associations nationwide, stressed that restoring the 300-litre quota would help ease financial burden and ensure uninterrupted news coverage across Malaysia.
