KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — A moderate 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck northern Sumatra, Indonesia, early this morning, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

The quake occurred at 4.06am at a depth of 18 kilometres, with its epicentre located approximately 67 kilometres west of Nias.

Authorities confirmed that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the seismic event. The situation continues to be monitored, but no immediate impact has been reported in neighbouring regions.
