KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 — Bersih has called for reforms in the appointment of the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
Following a statement by Sultan Ibrahim indicating he will select a new candidate. The group argued that key public appointments must follow transparent.
Independent and multi-layered processes, aligned with constitutional provisions that require the King to act on the advice of the prime minister.
BERSIH proposed that candidates be vetted through a parliamentary committee before submission for royal approval, to enhance accountability and avoid executive influence.
The coalition also urged the formation of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate allegations involving current MACC chief Azam Baki.
Stressing that unresolved claims could undermine institutional credibility and public trust in anti-corruption efforts.
