BATU KAWAN, April 25 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook confirmed that the Ministry of Transport Malaysia has submitted a proposal to the National Economic Action Council (MTEN).

To study lowering road tax for diesel vehicle owners not covered by subsidies. The move follows a directive from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to ease cost pressures amid rising fuel prices.

Loke said the proposal targets individuals outside schemes such as BUDI Diesel and fleet card programmes.

While diesel prices are floated to curb smuggling, the government is exploring tax relief as an alternative support measure.

Authorities are currently assessing the reduction rate and its impact on government revenue, with an announcement expected soon.
