KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Malaysia’s rice buffer stock has reached 300,000 tonnes, ensuring stable food supply for now, says Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu.

He noted that local production of chicken and eggs is nearing self-sufficiency, but warned of upcoming challenges due to rising global costs of animal feed, fertiliser and fuel.

Fish supply has also been slightly affected by hot weather, prompting efforts to expand aquaculture. Mohamad said the government is taking proactive measures.

Including increasing rice reserves, opening new paddy fields and supporting farmers through incentives. While food prices may rise slightly in the coming months.

He assured that efforts are in place to prevent sharp increases and safeguard national food security.
