PUTRAJAYA, May 21 — The government is studying a new approach to determine eligibility for public aid and subsidies based on the Basic Expenditure of Decent Living (PAKW).
Instead of relying solely on the B40, M40 and T20 income classifications. Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the proposed framework would assess households.
Based on disposable income, dependants, living costs and financial commitments to better reflect real economic conditions.
Akmal said the initiative comes as Malaysia strengthens economic resilience amid global supply and energy pressures.
He added that the government is also prioritising high-value industries, semiconductor development and energy transition efforts.
Among ongoing initiatives are the Insan income programme, which has generated over RM20 million in sales through vending machine projects.
And the introduction of biodiesel from June 1 to improve fuel sustainability and reduce carbon emissions.
