GEORGE TOWN, May 22 — Penang Tourism and Creative Economy exco Wong Hon Wai has allocated RM15,000 to support three Chinese cultural programmes.
Organised by student groups at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The funding supports the 46th Kung Fu Night, the 15th Engineering Chinese Cultural Night and the 2026 USM Chinese Orchestra Concert.
With each event receiving RM5,000. Wong, a USM alumnus, said universities play an important role in nurturing cultural heritage and leadership among youths.
He added that activities involving martial arts, Chinese orchestra, lion dance and cultural performances help preserve intangible cultural heritage while providing students.
With valuable organisational and teamwork experience. Wong also stressed that cultural continuity depends on younger generations actively participating in preserving and promoting traditional arts.
