BATU MAUNG, May 23 — The Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia (DOF) has confirmed that seafood and water quality in Kuala Juru, Penang remain safe following laboratory analysis conducted after complaints of possible pollution.
The analysis, carried out by the Fisheries Research Institute in Batu Maung with support from biosecurity centres in Kuantan and Selangor.
Found heavy metal levels in shellfish to be below limits set under the Food Act 1983. Tests also recorded safe levels of marine biotoxins.
And confirmed the absence of toxic microalgae linked to red tide incidents. Penang Fisheries Department director Azimah Jumatli said the public should not panic as seafood from Kuala Juru remains safe for consumption.
