GEORGE TOWN, September 23 — Penang’s water consumption is projected to rise about 34% to at least 1,162 million liters daily by 2032, prompting PBAPP to expand supply infrastructure.
The utility said six remaining Water Contingency Plan 2030 projects will include four new treatment plants in Seberang Perai, adding 478 million litres daily, and two pipelines supplying the island.
From 2032, Penang plans to purchase 300 to 500 million litres daily of treated water from Perak.
PBAPP also plans to explore strategic seawater desalination projects in the 2030s to strengthen resilience against low rainfall and climate change.
