KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 – The Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) has urged transport operators especially school bus operators to lower the fares in line with the drop in petrol and diesel retail prices. KPDNKK enforcement director Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said this was because the bus operators were among those who received the direct impact of petrol prices.

“When the price of petrol went up, the bus operators were among those who were very vocal in increasing fares. So when the petrol prices drop, they should also reduce the fares immediately,” he said after appearing as a guest on the Dalam Radar programme on Radio24 Bernama yesterday.

Meanwhile, he said, although the price of all goods should go down in line with the current price of petrol, consumers should also understand that there were other factors which determined prices. He said, among these facts were the salary of workers, electricity tariffs, rental of premises and quit rent. Beginning Jan 1, the retail price of RON 95 and RON 97 petrol was reduced by 35 sen, to RM1.91 per litre and RM2.11 per litre, while the retail price for diesel also went down by 30 sen to RM1.93 litre.
