PARIS, April 14 – Malaysia, which is already one of the world’s top ten tourist destinations, is well on track to achieve the goal of being a top tourist destination. Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Malaysia’s strengths lie in the ability of its vastly different ethics groups to live in peace and harmony, sharing a common bond of kinship and solidarity, thus ensuring continuous peace and stability.
“A century of living together in a closely knit society has contributed to the blending and forging of a unique culture which is diverse yet harmonious and vibrant which we are proud to share,” Muhyiddin said in his speech at the launch of the Malaysia Cultural Week Paris 2015 here. Muhyiddin is on a three-day working visit to launch the event which will offer visitors a fascinating insight into what Malaysia has to offer with a wide range of activities, exhibition and cultural performances.
Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, is also spearheading Malaysia’s bid for a seat on the executive board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for the 2015-2019 term. Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2014 has listed Malaysia as one of the world’s top ten countries to visit while CNN Travel has ranked Kuala Lumpur as the world’s fourth best shopping city after New York, Tokyo and London.
