KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 – Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Ir Hamim Samuri said that the government will study impact of the haze on the economy. He said the haze has affected the economy in certain areas, especially the tourism industry.
“Even some employees have to take medical leave due to the haze. In the same time, tin has also contributed significantly to the social-economic development of mankind,” he said after opening the International Tin Chemical & Solder Conference and Exhibition (ITCSCE 2015) here on Wednesday.
“Tin mining has also stimulated economic development through tax revenues and export earnings and by supporting investment in transport and other infrastructure. In the meantime, industry players must practise sustainable mining to ensure the environment was not at risk, and that future generation was not affected in the pursuit of wealth and development,” he said.
The two-day ITCSCE 2015, beginning on Wednesday, is jointly organised by the Malaysian Tin Industry Board and ITRI Ltd, UK. Meanwhile, the event had also themed as “Towards a Clearer, Safer and Healthier Environment”, which to aims to raise the awareness on the resilience and promise of tin as a key industrial material with a bright future, and the huge impact it would continue to have on green technology, sustainability, as well as global consumer economics.
