KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 – The ringgit closed easier against the US dollar Thursday weighed down by stronger economic data in the world’s largest economy, dealers said. At 5 pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.2170/2260 against the greenback from 4.2140/2190 on Wednesday.

A dealer said strong US manufacturing output and business investment numbers attracted traders to US dollar on optimism of a potential interest rate increase in December. He said the manufacturing output rises above economists’ expectations in October and a gauge of US business investment plans surged.

The local unit, however, was mostly higher against other major currencies. It firmed against the Singapore dollar to 2.9940/3018 from 3.0019/0061 on Wednesday and rose against the yen to 3.4405/4490 from 3.4422/4477 previously. The local currency fell against the British pound to 6.3605/3749 from yesterday’s 6.3547/3644 and increased against the euro to 4.4747/4855 from 4.4925/4987.
