GEORGE TOWN, July 15 — The Northeast District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division successfully dismantled a drug distribution syndicate during a major raid in the Pulau Tikus and Tanjong Tokong areas.
The operation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old local man and a 20-year-old foreign woman, along with the seizure of 8.2kg of compressed cannabis worth RM25,420, believed to supply up to 16,400 doses. Initial investigations revealed the suspects had been operating since early 2025 to meet local market demand.
One suspect tested positive for benzodiazepines and has four prior criminal records, while the other tested negative. Both are now under a seven-day remand starting July 11. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with no less than 12 strokes of the cane.
The police also seized assets under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, bringing the total value of confiscated items to RM46,890.50.
