KUALA LUMPUR, February 15 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Muhyiddin Yassin said the expulsion of 17 party members, including former deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, was necessary to preserve the party’s stability after efforts to find common ground failed.
peaking after chairing a special Supreme Council meeting, Muhyiddin said the disciplinary action was not taken lightly but followed unsuccessful discussions and alleged acts of internal sabotage aimed at dividing the party.
He stressed that as founder and president, he had a responsibility to ensure Bersatu remained strong and true to its original struggle ahead of the 16th General Election. The council also unanimously appointed Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Ahmad Faizal Azumu to carry out the duties of deputy president.
Muhyiddin urged members to remain calm and rally behind the current leadership to rebuild unity and strengthen the party. The expulsions come amid heightened internal tensions and calls from senior figures for Muhyiddin to step down, although he remains chairman of Perikatan Nasional.
