KAJANG, February 28 — The Cabinet has discussed a proposal to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the shareholding controversy involving Azam Baki, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed today.
Speaking after Friday prayers at Masjid Jamek Bandar Kajang, Anwar said the matter was deliberated thoroughly and that an official statement would be issued soon, but declined to disclose further details.
The call for an RCI was led by Anthony Loke amid allegations over Azam’s reported 17.7 million shares. A special committee chaired by Attorney-General Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar is currently investigating the claims. Azam has denied wrongdoing and filed a defamation suit over the allegations.
