GEORGE TOWN, February 28 — The Penang Island City Council will begin enforcing illegal parking regulations along Jalan Residensi from 5:00 PM daily, following rising traffic congestion caused by vehicles parked along both sides of the road.

Motorists whose cars are towed must reclaim them at Jalan Sepoy Line by 7:00 PM or at the council’s enforcement depot behind Komtar if after hours. Mayor Dato’ Rajendran highlighted that Jalan Residensi is a key link connecting Jalan Macalister and Jalan Utama.

Serving high daily traffic including hospital visitors, school traffic, and commuters. To ease congestion, certain roads near the General Hospital have been converted to one-way traffic, providing 150 parking spaces.

With an additional 500 spaces expected upon the completion of hospital development works in 2028. Free shuttle services to the hospital are also offered to reduce dependence on private vehicles.
