GEORGE TOWN, February 28 — Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) will implement four critical waterworks projects in Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah.

Resulting in a 12-hour overnight scheduled water supply interruption (SWSI) from 10.00pm on March 5 to 10.00am on March 6. About 9,000 consumers in the Lembah Permai and Hillside neighbourhoods, served by the Guillemard Water Treatment Plant (WTP), will be affected.

The works follow a gearbox failure at the Vale of Tempe valve on Jan 18 that caused an unscheduled disruption impacting 2,200 users. Temporary repairs restored supply within 19 hours, but permanent upgrades are now deemed necessary.

PBAPP will replace two damaged 600mm valves, install an additional 600mm straight valve along Jalan Lembah Permai. And add a new 600mm valve to improve non-revenue water management.

The RM117,694 investment aims to prevent recurrence of past incidents, strengthen treated water pressure controls and enhance service reliability. Affected households and businesses, including hotels, are advised to store sufficient water.

Enquiries can be directed to PBAPP’s 24-hour call centre at 04-255 8 255.
