GEORGE TOWN, March 11 – Penang recorded RM22.4 billion in approved manufacturing investments in 2025, marking a 29 percent increase from the previous year and reinforcing the state’s position as a major industrial hub.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the investments covered 232 projects and are expected to create 24,633 new job opportunities.

Foreign direct investment accounted for RM15.2 billion, with Singapore, the United States and China among the top contributors.

The investments were largely concentrated in promoted sectors such as Electrical and Electronics, Machinery and Equipment, and Chemicals, which together made up 81 percent of total inflows.

Chow said the strong performance reflects continued investor confidence in Penang’s industrial ecosystem despite global economic uncertainties.

Supported by the state’s strong supply chains, skilled talent pool and established manufacturing infrastructure.
