GEORGE TOWN, Oct 3 – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng who is also DAP secretary-general hold a press conference on Friday after the Signing Ceremony Of Non-Disclosure Agreement Of Telecommunication said he will lodge a police report against a tweet that had allegedly made on Thursday about banning mosques and surau from using loudspeakers.
“I never posted such a tweet which also implied that those who disagreed with the ban could leave Penang. The tweet is a fake. I never made such a tweet. It is malicious slander. A police report will be made and I also hope the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission can investigate against this issues,” he told reporters on Friday morning.
He said the fake tweet was posted in Malay which having gone viral since on Friday. In the tweet it had tweeted that “Larangan pembesar suara di Masjid & Surau dlm P. Pinang muktamad. Mereka yang tak setuju tak layak tinggal dalam negeri ini. Sila keluar!”
“Meanwhile, I would like to urged the people not to believe the fake tweet, which it may meant to divert the attention of the public from the bigger issues which also may affecting the country, such as the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal, economy and hike in petrol prices, among others,” said Lim.
He said he don’t know who did this but he think that is the intention, and also an attempt to incite racial sentiments to disrupt peace in the state and also has never interfered about Islam. Yesterday, Penang Mufti Datuk Dr Wan Salim Mohd Noor said there was no ban on the use of mosque or surau loudspeakers for azan, but only for other programmes at the religious premises, such as zikir (Quran reading before dawn), sermons and Quranic recordings.
