KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 – UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor on Wednesday said that the seven UMNO members currently under probe over their remarks in openly criticising the party may face suspension from the party.
Tengku Adnan, without revealing the names of the party members concerned, said the matter was being investigated by a special committee which would table the outcome of its investigation before the party’s presidential council, prior to the matter being brought to the party’s disciplinary committee.
“Once the process goes, we will suspend their membership and also whatever position they hold in the party. UMNO has its constitution and code of ethics which have to be observed by members,” he said when met by reporters at Parliament lobby on Wednesday.
“We can’t take any nonsense anymore. If you don’t believe in the party’s struggle, you leave the party. We do not want people who are ‘thorn in the flesh’ in our party. UMNO was monitoring closely seven party leaders for allegedly violating party regulations,” said Tengku Adnan, who is Federal Territories Minister in the early this month.
Lately, there were also have several UMNO leaders are been reported that they have joined to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the issuing statements that may criticising the leadership of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
They included former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, former Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. Meanwhile, Tengku Razaleigh, when met in Parliament, said he did not know if he was among the seven UMNO members that were being investigated by the party.
