KUANTAN, March 10 – The Kuantan UMNO division has pledged to support and rally behind the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak against current attempts to overthrow it. Its chief Datuk Seri Wan Adnan Wan Mamat said it was imperative for party members and the people to let the government focus on its agenda to develop the country and population.
He said that the division is united with the Pahang UMNO Liaison body in condemning attempts though the ‘Mahathir declaration’ to oust the government. He told this to the reporters after an UMNO function here last night. The function was attended by 420 divisional and branch-level party leaders.
Wan Adnan also expressed the division’s regret and disappointment over Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and other former party and Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders’ alleged collusion with the opposition in the issue. He alleged that Dr Mahathir and the ex leaders had gone against the very principles and struggles they had upheld when they were in the BN.
He further alleged that the move was calculated to paint a negative picture of political and government instability leading to panic and loss of confidence in the present leaders. He said this is a declaration of ‘war’ to all other UMNO members and the people who gave the government under Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak the mandate to lead the country.
Wan Adnan said UMNO has sustained to this day in its struggle for the Malay race and succeeded in attaining benefits for the people through its policies despite numerous challenges since its formation. Meanwhile, he urged the UMNO supreme council to sack party members who had signed the Mahathir declaration with the opposition which had among others called for Najib who is also UMNO president, to resign.
