Summary
  • Land tax rebate remains at 50%.
  • Collections increase 44.41%.
  • Revenue reaches RM167.59 million.

GEORGE TOWN, November 2 — Penang will maintain its 50% land tax rebate in 2027 despite a sharp increase in collections following the state’s first land tax revision in 32 years.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said collections reached RM167.59 million as of October 29, up RM51.54 million, or 44.41%, from RM116.05 million in 2025.

The increase came despite existing rebates and approved tax reductions through landowners’ appeals, which reduced potential revenue by nearly RM35.7 million.

The government said the rebate would continue next year, subject to applicable conditions.
