GEORGE TOWN, November 5 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has proposed increasing the State Assembly Deputy Speaker’s monthly allowance from RM1,996.50 to RM6,500.
Under a proposed amendment to the state’s remuneration law. Chow said the revision reflects the position’s responsibilities and follows comparisons with other states.
Where average allowances exceed RM8,000. The proposed RM4,503.50 increase would take effect on January 1, 2027, if approved by the State Assembly.
Chow said the adjustment aims to strengthen legislative leadership while ensuring financial accountability and responsible public spending.
