KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 – Barisan Nasional Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin has called on MIC to resolve its ongoing crisis quickly to preserve the ruling coalition and the party’s image. In a statement, the Rembau Member of Parliament said while BN adopted the consensus that each component party does not interfere in another’s respective affairs, the strength of the coalition depended on its unity.

“The internal issue of MIC that is currently seen continues to alarm many as the crisis continues to heat up. “This would not only affect the Indian support for the party but could also see the effects hitting BN as well.” As such, the Youth and Sports Minister urged the party’s top leadership to resolve the crisis immediately to ensure that MIC and BN’s image are not damaged. Earlier today, in a move to avoid the crisis in MIC from worsening, party president Datuk Seri G.

Palanivel and his deputy Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam have agreed to a moratorium. Palanivel had said that they will meet as soon as possible to decide on the next course of action that will satisfy all quarters. The crisis within the party began after the Registrar of Societies declared the elections for the vice-president and Central Working Committee to be illegal and MIC was ordered to hold fresh elections.
