SHAH ALAM, March 4 – The results of the mediation process on two lawsuits concerning two former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Dr. Mohamad Khir Toyo will be decided on March 25. The suits involve the purchase of a Lexus car and 46 cows to be sacrificed six years ago.
Abdul Khalid’s lawyer Sankara Nair said he and the lawyer for Mohamad Khir would continue to hold further discussions and notify the court on the result of the negotiations. “Currently, both sides are discussing and today is the first day of the mediation. “After that, the lawyers will discuss among themselves and we will inform the court on March 25 whether we have achieved something or not.
“Otherwise, we will proceed with the trial,” he told the media after ending the mediation process today. Mohamad Khir and Abdul Khalid were present at today’s mediation process. Abdul Khalid, when met by the reporters, said his action in filing the suit was a way for him to maintain his reputation as the former Selangor MB and as a professional.
“The reason I am filing these suits is to determine the matters that were stated as true and correct. Otherwise, we need to clarify and make corrections. “I am not hoping for anything aside from (protecting) my own reputation.” Mohamad Khir, on the other hand, refused to give any comments when asked by the reporters.
Abdul Khalid filed the suits regarding the two cases on Feb 18, 2009. Based on the writ of summons, Abdul Khalid claimed that Mohamad Khir had made a defamatory speech or two statements, which were published in two local dailies and published on Jan 15, 2009 and Jan 23 the same year. Abdul Khalid claimed that both articles, whether directly or indirectly, said he was dishonest, unethical and had abused his position for personal gain.
