KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 – Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will be holding two protests today demanding the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar. The protests will kick-off with PR’s weekly KitaLawan rally at the Sogo shopping complex at 4pm today while later at 8pm tonight, the second wave of the protest participants would be sitting “leisurely” at the Dataran Merdeka. Selayang Keadilan Youth vice chief Amran Bidin said the participants at Dataran Merdeka are required to bring their sleeping bags as they would be sleeping there for a week.
“We will be conducting the sit-in protest starting March 21 (Saturday) until March 28 (Saturday) and every shift is 24 hours. We ask all of our friends to join this effort for at least one night,” said Amran. Meanwhile, observations by The Rakyat Post at the Dataran Merdeka found that the place was closed with barricades placed around the field along with a sign saying “Dataran Merdeka is closed temporarily until further notification”. A few policemen and several other Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officers were seen stationed around Dataran Merdeka. The protest aims to urge the IGP to step down as they claim the IGP has been misusing his power for arresting their fellow activists recently.
