SEMPORNA, March 25 – Thousands are made homeless as fire ravaged about 500 houses at the Kampung Bangau Bangau squatter colony here since the early hours. Three fire engines including one dispatched from Tawau are at the scene near the town here, to control the fire that spread on an area about 4ha.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue department said a distress call was received at about 2am and the first two engines arrived in about five minutes. “We had draw water from the sea using a ‘floating pump’ by boat to douse the flames,” the spokesman said adding so far no casualties were reported.
