PUTRAJAYA, April 22 – 2015 will be a historical year for both ASEAN and the regional grouping’s chairman Malaysia, as the world will be witnessing the establishment of ASEAN Community by year’s end.
“All eyes will be on Malaysia when the countdown for the integrated ASEAN begins,” said Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry in a statement today.
The statement which was issued ahead of the ASEAN Summit on April 26-27 in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi, said that this should be an opportunity for Malaysia to elevate its profile to the international community.
It said convening the meeting in Langkawi therefore would not only boost the island’s tourism industry, but also as a suitable venue for hosting or organising international meetings and conferences.
Apart from the summit being convened in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi, Malaysia has also chosen several other states such as Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak as venues for various ASEAN meetings this year.
