GEORGETOWN, Jul 30 – Cititel Penang having a fire evacuation drill this yesterday morning at 10:05am. The training was to aimed at the familiarising the staff with the fire safety procedures and to also equip them with the knowledge of what to do in case of such an eventuality happen in the hotel.
The fire drill was started at 10:05am with the fire alarm was ringing. There were two fire engines was stopped in front of the hotel as the thick smoke was bellowed out from one of the hotel rooms which facing in the Penang Road. There were cover up to 165 hotel staff were seen walking away briskly from the hotel in order manner to the open car park which opposite to the hotel.
The drill commenced with the fire emergency in one of the hotel rooms triggering the emergency fire alarmed which was connected to the Bomba Station In Jalan Perak. In additional, members who from one of the hotel’s Emergency Response Team assisted in evacuating all the staff and guest from the hotel building whilst another team tried to control the ‘friend searched for ‘victims’ who trapped in the hotel.
The fire drill was ended on 10:40am and the press conference was started after the fire drill. The press conference were attended by Cititel Penang General Manager Tony Goh, Cititl Penang Safety and Security Manager Velumurugan, Senior Fire Officer 2 Shamsudin Bin Ahmad and also Observer from Beach Street Raman Doraisamy.
“In this 17 years, we are having 2 times training per year as internal fire drill and fire evacuation drill with bomba. Besides that, we also conduct the trial. In the same time, we will check all the fire rescue which able to work before we start the fire drill or trial,” said Cititl Penang Safety and Security Manager Velumurugan.
“The fire drill for the day was considers as successful which taking 2 minutes time (10:07am) to bring out the 1st stuff and the last stuff who come out on 10:10am. For the stuff who was in the 5th Floor was seriously injured, so it take more time which is 10:22am to stretcher down the 1st stuff in 5th Floor to lobby front porch area by using rope,” said observer from Beach Street Raman Doraisamy.
“For the second stuff who stretcher down from 5th Floor to lobby front porch area by using the time of 11 minute (10:33am). It was a good sign which the activities was started at 10:05am and ended on 10:40am. All the stuff are back to their working places at 10:42am. It was consider as a successful training,” he added.
