KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 – The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) wants the government to consider granting a bonus of three months for civil servants in Budget 2016 next month. Cuepacs secretary-general Datuk Lok Yim Pheng said the request was made to help ease the burden of those people who are faced with the high cost of living in the moment.

“We are not requesting the government to give the three-month bonus in a lump sum but in stages as we understand the situation of the state government. The demand was also a bonus as a token of appreciation for civil servants who have performed good service over the years,” said Datuk Lok.

“In addition, when receiving a bonus, they will spend and will boost the country’s economy. In the meantime, Cuepacs also wanted  the government to review and make improvements to 252 salaries and allowances of civil servants in order to reduce their burden amidst the current economic challenges faced,” he said.

“Due to the attention should be given because it was the aspiration of the 1.6 million civil servants in the country. Among the improvements that can be done is to give rise grade based on the experience and expertise of the staff who have served for a long time,” he said.

“Although they have only SPM qualifications, Malaysia (SPM), it can be recognized based on the experience and expertise to enable them to receive an increase in grade. The government may have to provide more allocation for training opportunities to enhance their skills and expertise,” he added.
