GEORGE TOWN, Sept 12 – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has sent the notices of summons to Berita Harian and Utusan Malaysia over the recent court case which Penang Umno leader apologised to Lim for slander. After the latter issued a full apology in court last month, CM Lim had been turned the retracted of his defamation suit against Bagan Umno division head Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin

He said Shaik Hussein had read out his apology to he in the chambers at the Penang High Court twice and retracted on his statement which made against he back in 2012 about the Penang government receiving the funds which was proven to be untrue as they are a clean government.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said this part was never mentioned in the two newspapers despite it being a consent judgement with the newspaper representatives being there when he spoke to the press. He said there are certain newspapers which did not want to publish his side of the story whereby he retracted his suit against Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin after Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin retracted on the statement.

“I wanted to sue because Shaik had slandered me by accusing me of the corruption, which not only tarnished my reputation but also that of the state. I had decided to withdraw the case against Shaik after the latter read out the apology to me before the judge,” he told a press conference at his office in Komtar here on Friday.

He said his side of the story was published by other press but not by Utusan and Berita Harian. He said  Utusan and Berita Harian only published statements made by Shaik Hussein Mydin which gave the impression that he had retracted his suit without condition.

“Without him retracting his statement and without his apology which left me with no choice but to sue Utusan and Berita Harian. They had portrayed that I had retracted my suit without condition as if to say that I had received a bribe,” he added. Meanwhile, he also stressed that the Penang state government was corruption-free and clean and he had to do everything to defend the good image of the state government.
