SINGAPORE, Sept 12 – Share of the vote in Singapore’s ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) looked to have increased in an election victory on Friday. The election was brushing off an opposition challenge in the city state’s most hotly contested polls.
The PAP, which has ruled the first general election since independence in 1965 which was always been expected to win in the election but opposition parties with contesting in every single seat is being contested. He hoped to win enough votes to challenge its domination of politics.
Elated PAP candidate Lam Pin Min as the Election Department released sample counts of votes from constituencies across the island said they hope the they would at least retain the results of 2011 although it is really beyond on his expectation. He said the electorate has recognised the effort that the government has put in to make the lives of Singaporeans better.
The results showed the PAP was likely to increase its share of the popular vote from 60.1% in the last election in 2011 which its was showing that they still won 79 of a total 87 seats in the Parliament. Full results for the Parliament of 89 seats elected on Friday will due in the early hours of Saturday but the vote of samples also showed that no surprising gains by the opposition.
