KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 – UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and party executive secretary Datuk Abdul Rauf Yusoh will file an application on Tuesday to strike out a lawsuit against them over the RM2.6 billion (US$650 million) allegedly deposited into the personal account of the prime minister.
Lawyer Nor Emilia Mohd Iszeham, representing Najib and Abdul Rauf, told reporters that her clients would also file an application for a stay of proceedings of several applications by the plaintiff in the suit pending the hearing of Tuesday application. She said after the case came up for mention in chambers before Deputy Registrar Norfauzani Mohd Nordin about they will file the applications on Tuesday.
On Aug 28, Anina Saadudin, who was subsequently sacked from UMNO, filed a lawsuit, which she said was done on behalf of UMNO, against Najib and Abdul Rauf, seeking to claim a portion of the RM2.6 billion said to have been donated to Najib by a friendly Middle Eastern nation to help UMNO in its 2013 election campaign.
Anina’s lawyer Aizul Rohan Anuar said on Monday in the court had ordered the defendants in the suit to file their statement of defence by Oct 1. In the same time, he said the court also set Oct 26 for case management before Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab.
