KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 – MCA has formulated a mechanism to expand voting base from the current voting by central delegates to all delegates at the divisional level. MCA Secretary-General Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said the mechanism had been approved by the Central Committee and now the grassroots are being briefed on the mechanism.
He said when the mechanism was eventually implemented, it would expand election of the central leadership by 2,375 central delegates to 30,000 to 40,000 delegates at the divisional level in the nationwide. Besides that, the expanding representation will also empower greater grassroot members’ participation, which can lead to the strengthening of the democratic foundations of the party.
He said when opening the 40th Wanita MCA annual general assembly here on Saturday that this is a significant progress for MCA’s election system and the structure of our organisation. On another note, Ong also commended the roles of the women in MCA since before the independece of the nation, adding that they had adapted to the changes of time and contributed tirelessly to the development of the community and the country.
“Under the leadership of current chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kie, apart from playing an important role in politics, Wanita MCA also constantly keeps an eye on the national economic trend. When the nation is faced with challenges, Wanita MCA has stepped in to help the government resolve issues in a rational and pragmatic manner,” said Ong.
Meanwhile, Heng in her speech also reiterated that Wanita MCA’s will stand against any attempt to threaten the racial harmony in the country. In the same time, she also urged the government to set up a special disciplinary committee to deal with quarters that incite racial hatred.
