KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 – The former deputy higher education minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who is a former Temerloh MP are leaving Umno and joining PKR tomorrow. He will be unveiled as a PKR member at a press conference at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya at noon tomorrow.
He was recently served a show cause letter by Umno for attending the roundtable discussion that led to the formation of the new opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan. A senior party leader told The Malaysian Insider on the condition of anonymity said yes, Saifuddin is joining us.
In the meantime, The Malaysian Insider has called and texted Saifuddin to verify the news but there is no reply as of press time. Opposition leader and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail also been announce that Saifuddin’s membership at the party’s headquarters at noon tomorrow.
The party also issued a notice to the media tonight calling for coverage of a press conference at the same time tomorrow, where new members from Umno would be unveiled. Party sources said Saifuddin is expected to play a prominent role in the newly-formed opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan.
The Malaysian Insider understands that plans are afoot to appoint the former deputy minister as executive secretary to the three-party pact, that also includes DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah). However, This are also the subject to endorsement from the other two coalition partners.
