KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 – The progress of 992 projects pledged by the Federal Government since 2013 will be reviewed every three months, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said monitoring must be done to ensure the cost effectivenes on these projects.

“I personally would monitor the status of every project and its target completion date to determine if it could be met. If it cannot be achieved, the Federal Government Pledges National Committee will help the department or agency concerned to determine if a new date is desired,” he said.

“But the projects must be concluded by 2018,” he told reporters after attending a People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) Pinning of Rank ceremony for 123 young leaders under the Kesateria Muda Keselamatan Programme at the Putra World Trade Centre here Wednesday.

Also present were Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and RELA director-general, Datuk Kamariah Mohd Din. Ahmad Zahid said 78 per cent or 3,730 of the overall 4,797 projects under the Federal Government Pledge, had been completed. The Deputy Prime Minister also chaired the Federal Government Pledge National Committee meeting at Parliament House to discuss the current developments of the pledges earlier in the morning.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said RELA must be the frontline in helping the National Disaster Management Agency in areas affected by floods. He said it was a form of commitment of the volunteer body to look after the safety of the people who encountered difficulties.

“Publicity is not the main aim but when the faces of RELA members are plastered on newspapers, television and social media, society will see RELA as giving commitment in helping the public. Meanwhile, I also would like to urged RELA members to cast aside their political ideologies, religion and ethnicity in helping the people,” he added.
