KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 – A final decision has yet to be made on making the 2015 Umno General Assembly a closed-door meeting without media coverage, said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. He said that if the media could behave themselves and not spin stories, the party might open the assembly for media coverage.
“Because the problem is with all of you. When we open it up, you like to pick up things to spin against us. So I can’t take that. If you behave yourself, I can behave myself. I can open it to all of you. Please wait a while. We will give you the decision. Don’t worry, not yet, never made the decision yet. I will tell you very soon,” he told reporters at the lobby of Parliament House here Wednesday.
During a press conference earlier, Tengku Adnan also said that Umno had decided that its general assembly next month would be a closed-door meeting without coverage by the any media, also including the mainstream media, to avert the manipulation of the news.
He had said there was a tendency for the media, particularly the online media and news portals, to publish incorrect news and twist the facts. Later, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is the deputy prime minister and home minister, said the decision had yet to be discussed at the party supreme council.
