KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 – The issue of funds for bumiputra entreprenuers is among items which will be given focus during the UMNO Youth wing’s delegates meeting at the party General Assembly next month. UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said, despite the many funds which were made available by the government especially in the 2016 Budget, there were still grouses on the difficulties in obtaining them.
“We feel there is a need to highlight this issue. We want to know where the the gaps are which resulted in some not getting the funds and the difficulties in getting (loans), despite the many funds and institutions in existence,” he said to reporters after opening the Bumiputra Fund Convention at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here, Saturday.
In this regard, Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, advised youths especially graduates keen to become entrepreneurs to obtain detailed information. He said he have met many graduates who wanted to go into business but were not aware that the National Entrepreneur Development Corporation, and Mara exist. He said many still think they must provide a collateral to obtain a loan.
“Meanwhile, UMNO was still the most democratic party in the country but the freedom given must be accompanied by discipline among the members. Must have party discipline. This is a political party, not a market, must have discipline. It is the same with the opposition party,” Khairy said.
He was commenting on the sacking of the Gopeng UMNO Woman’s chief Datuk Hamidah Osman for breaching party discipline by the Supreme Council which has the final say on disciplinary action. He added that many who criticised the leadership were not sacked. In the meantime, he said Hamidah was sacked because she went overboard.
