HULU TERENGGANU, Nov 30 – The communications and multimedia ministry has allocated RM2 million to set up seven internet centres in the Hulu Terengganu district this year. Deputy Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said while five centres were already operational, two more were expected to be completed before year-end.

“The people, especially the young, must make full use of the internet facilities to promote business and tourism in Hulu Terengganu,” he told reporters after officiating the closing of the ‘On The Trail Of Ulama Tokku Pauh 1Malaysia Green 1Malaysia Clean NBOS Programme’ here on Saturday.

He said the five areas which already had internet centres were Felda Mengkawang, Kampung Menerong, Kampung Bukit Diman, Kampung Padang Tara and Kampung Capu. Two more which are under construction are located in Kuala Berang town and Kampung Tok Randok near Ajil.

Meanwhile, he said the aim of the programme was to foster love for the beauty and cleanliness of villages and boost awareness on the existence of tombs of religious scholars to lure Islamic tourists. The programme was organised by the Terengganu chapter of the tourism and culture ministry. Commenting further, Jailani, who is also Hulu Terengganu MP, said the existence of Islamic history and tombs of ulama in the constituency must be fully exploited to generate the income of locals.
