KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants more persons with disabilities (PWDs) to register with the Social Welfare Department. In a note on his Facebook page, he pointed out that there were an estimated 4.4 million such people in Malaysia, but only 506,228 were registered with the department.

“I hope the people in this country are more concerned to ensure that this special group is registered with the Social Welfare Department. I would also enable them to receive the facilities and privileges which are provided by the government,” said the prime minister.

Najib also shared an inspiring Friday sermon he heard yesterday. In conjunction with ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ Thursday, he added that the ‘khatib’ (preacher) reminded that we must work hand-in-hand to safeguard the interests and future of this special group.
