KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 – Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is former deputy prime minister, urged UMNO party members to get rid of those who have become “cancerous cells” in the organisation. He said it was now up to party members to take action as he had already done his part and might be expelled from UMNO for raising various issues that were plaguing the party.
He said although it was not his right to force the PM and party president to relinquish his post but the people on the ground had also been asking the top leadership to leave their posts. In the meantime, he also urged Datuk Seri Najib Razak to take a break while investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd and the RM2.6 billion donation were still ongoing. He said if the investigation proves that Najib was not involved, Najib can resume his duties after that.
He said it was important for PM to take such action, so that, it may allow for transparent and fair investigations. He also said Umno members should not be barred to sharing their thoughts on the controversial issues during the party general assembly due to it was their right to speak. Also present were former party president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Muhyiddin’s wife Puan Sri Nooraini Abdul Rahman.
