KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 – UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Razak took a walk down memory lane in his policy speech at the UMNO General Assembly 2015 here today when he took the delegates back to 1987 when he choose to pledge support for then president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
At that time, UMNO was faced with an internal crisis as Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah wanted to challenge Dr Mahathir for the president’s post. Based on that, Najib asked UMNO members today to remain loyal to his leadership, just as he had done 28 years ago. Najib said he choose to stay loyal to the leadership of Dr Mahathir in defending his post as UMNO president.
He told this to the delegates this morning at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here Thursday. He said this in reference to the move by Dr Mahathir, together with UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and vice president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal in criticising the party’s leadership. Therefore, Najib then also asked all the party members and leaders to remain loyal in order to ensure UMNO stands strong for the Malays.
