KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 – Sabah UMNO expressed its appreciation to party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who cares a lot for the state’s sovereignty, security and development. Responding to Najib’s policy speech at the opening of the UMNO General Assembly 2015 here Thursday, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the people of Sabah were grateful as these matters always received special attention from the national leadership.
“Just look at the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway which costs billions of ringgit and with regard to security in Sabah, the prime minister has never forgotten about this aspect,” he told reporters after the opening of the assembly at PWTC here on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Ranau UMNO division chief Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Najib’s continued commitment to protecting Sabah’s sovereignty was much welcomed, what more after the insensitivity of the opposition leaders towards the sentiments of people in the state.
“Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar’s meeting with the self-proclained Sulu sultan’s daughter Jacel H. Kiram, had hurt the feelings of the Sabah people over the tragic incursion incident in Lahad Datu in 2013. We were shocked when the opposition leaders had nonchalantly met with the daughter of the man who had clearly ordered his soldiers to attack Sabah. For the people of Sabah, it was a hard slap on their face,” Masidi, who is also state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister said.
Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the people in the state welcomed the prime minister’s commitment to boosting the security assets and to infrastructural development in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone). He said this shows the federal government’s commitment to strengthening relations with the state government. He said to he, they should not just look at the problems now but in the future too.
Najib, in his policy speech, said UMNO and Barisan Nasional would go all out in defending Sabah against intruders. The prime minister said the government would continue to ensure security in Sabah so that the state would remain in Malaysia and prosper forever.
