KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 – Journalists from two news portals were told to leave the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) by Umno representatives today. The journalists were sitting at PWTC’s second floor lobby this morning when two Umno representatives accompanied by three security guards asked them to identify themselves, and subsequently told them to leave.
Journalist Blake Chen from Free Malaysia Today (FMT) said he was also asked which organisation he represented but there were no action was taken against him. Ten minutes later, another representative came with security guards told the journalists politely that he had received “orders from the top and we are only doing our job”.
There were seven journalists altogether. In the meantime, UMNO has banned Malaysiakini journalists from entering the hall and the media room, but they are now not allowed to be anywhere inside the building. The Umno general assembly, which enters its last day today, is being held in the main hall of PWTC.
