KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 – UMNO must immediately set up war room and polling district centre (PDM) in each branch to prepare for the 14th General Election, said Wanita UMNO representative Noraslina Zainal Abidin. She said the party needed to focus on target groups and the Barisan Nasional (BN) fixed deposit strongholds such as the cluster of voters in Felda.
Referring to the Rompin by-election in May, the Sembrong Wanita UMNO chief said BN had not achieved a handsome win because various issues relating to Felda was played up by the opposition in the last minute. She said the examine in detail the deterioration the number of voters for the party.
“Don’t be in denial. Try to understand and listen to the pulse of the Felda voters in the 54 Parliamentary constituencies. Educators and voters in the traditional villages should also be given the attention,” she said when debating the presidential speech on the second day of the UMNO General Assembly 2015 at the Putra World Trade Centre, here Friday.
Noraslina also called on UMNO to add the number of candidates from the wing to be at least 29 per cent of the total candidates. She said this was based on the results of the last general election, where eight out of 10 women contesting for Parliamentary seats and 25 out of 35 for state assembly seats had won. She also suggested that the postal voting to be extended to employees in the health sector, who were working on polling day, with majority of them being female nurses.
