KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 – The 2015 Malaysian Al-Azhar Alumni Regional Seminar, the first ever to be held, hopes to pave the way towards unifying the two largest Islamic parties in the country, namely PAS and UMNO. This hope was expressed by World Association for al-Azhar Graduates Malaysia (WAAG Malaysia) chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Mukti who said the seminar would discuss the political and ideological differences that were surrounding the Muslim community in the country.
“The occassion, could pave the way for unity between the two parties. In this context, we have focussed on political understanding, because we have taken into account, that most of the Muslims in the country tend to lean towards the two largest Islamic political parties (PAS and UMNO). One of the purposes of this meet is to bring together, to instill the spirit of discussion and dialogue and maybe what happens here can affect the Muslim community in our country,” he told reporters here Thursday.
The three-day forum (December 16 to 18) organised by WAAG Malaysia, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office, will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak this afternoon, and is expected to be attended by 900 local and foreign participants.
