GEORGE TOWN, Dec 30 – The Penang Gerakan has supported a move by the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to supervise and monitor the implementation of the proposed RM27 billion Penang Transportation Master Plan (PTMP).
Its secretary, Oh Tong Keong said Gerakan agreed with state MACC director Datuk Sama Rajoo that a mega infrastructural project such as PTMP needed some form of anti-corruption mechanism to ensure it was carried out, in accordance with standing administrative procedures.
He hoped the supervision job would also cover the related land reclamation projects in the sea off Penang. He said they believe this is a good and wise move by the commission (MACC) because the project will commence by next year. He said this in his statement here Tuesday.
The PTMP projects include a 6.5km undersea tunnel, three expressways and a cable car project called Penang Sky Cab. Oh also hoped the state government would accept MACC’s proposed supervisory measures and appealed to the MACC to oversee and supervise related land reclamation projects to be carried out by the state government.
